Good lyrics, good emotion, good energy. Whaccha think?

All you great men of power, you who boast of your feats -
Politicians and entrepreneurs.
Can you safeguard your breath in the night while you sleep?
Keep your heart beating steady and sure?
As you lie in your bed, does the thought haunt your head
That you’re really, rather small?
If there’s one thing I know in this life: we are beggars all.

All you champions of science and rulers of men,
Can you summon the sun from its sleep?
Does the earth seek your counsel on how fast to spin?
Can you shut up the gates of the deep?
Don’t you know that all things hang, as if by a string,
O’er the darkness - poised to fall?
If there’s one thing I know in this life: we are beggars all.

All you big shots that swagger and stride with conceit,
Did you devise how your frame would be formed?
If you’d be raised in a palace, or live out in the streets,
Did you choose the place or the hour you’d be born?
Tell me what can you claim? Not a thing - not your name!
Tell me if you can recall just one thing,
That’s not a gift in this life?

Can you hear what’s been said?
Can you see now that everything’s grace after all?
If there’s one thing I know in this life: we are beggars all.

Interesting song ... can't say I agree with a rock star in a pretty big rock band singing about other people's conceit as though it's any different than his, but - yeah - cool song.

How's this work? One song a day? Do I have to wait till midnight to post one? Or start a new thread?

I think the point of the song is: no matter how important I think I am or anyone else thinks they are, each of us is just just sort of along for the ride. More money or power doesn't mean you get to live forever, etc. I love the line "Does the earth seek your counsel on how fast to spin". Kinda puts in all in perspective.

Anyway, sure, I guess since I started the thread, I get to make the rules:
1) One song per day.
2) To post a new song, you must comment on the previous song.
3) Song should have at least two of these three things: good lyrics, good emotion, good energy.
4) Limit of one song per artist per month (assuming this thread takes off). So, no more thrice songs for a while.

Robert, today's song is compliments of you.

That was pretty cool. Liked the lyrics. The hypnotic lulluby effect cut apart by the stabbing tele and screamo vocals. Cool.

I like the passion from the singer.........And the oddly-timed drums are very nice as well. Good song. Good lyrics.

Of all the strange songs my four year old daughter is obssessed with this one. She sings it word for word. She has pretty good pitch too.

These dudes (and gals) are great. Kind 'of art-rock-y.

Without further ado: The Dears and "Death of all Romance"

Thanks for sharing Knight. Not quite my cup of tea, a little too artsy for me, but kind of a catchy tune. As I think of my favorite songs, not too many of them are guy girl relationship songs. It's probably just me. After twenty years of marriage, I guess the relationship songs just don't do much for me.

But, hey, I listened to a new song today. Thanks.

Go for it.

Good lyrics, good emotion, good energy - try to get at least 2 of the 3. If you fail miserably, we'll let you know, and we'll listen to a new song the next day.

Thrice is popular on another site I hang out at.

Try this song out guys... (I won't stop until one of u guys start likin some 311!!!)

One more 8)

"With the words slaying me slow
The verbs that just don't flow
Confusing use of time
Partial stoning of the heart
Waiting for something to start
Confusing use of time

But the trying again
Makes me think it's all gonna end
Confusing use of time

But everytime I turn the volume down
All I hear is the deafening sound
Of you hearts pound

But the trying again
Makes me think it's all gonna end
Confusing use of time

Today, the longest day
Hearing repeating things you'd say
Confusing use of time
Can you hear the void I describe
What could I say vacancy sounds like
Confusing use of time

But the trying again
Makes me think it's all gonna end
Confusing use of time"

Thanks for sharing. Pretty good. I like the second one better than the first. The first one reminded me too much of an old Alan Parsons song, I Robot or something, with that mid-range-ish synthesizer going through the song in the background.

More new music for me. I don't think I've ever listened to 311 before. I'll maybe check them out some more on Spotify.

311 on Pandora is pretty good: 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, Incubus,...

OK, who's going to post today's cool song?

I'll Bite. Been listening to this group a lot lately. Music isn't necessarily to special but I really like the lyrics.

Cool. My oldest daughter used to listen to a lot of Relient K. They definitely have a lot of good stuff in their catalog. Here are a couple of my favorites from them.

I like this one, I think mainly for the piano "riff" - it's just kinda cool

And, if you have an 11 minute attention span, check out "Deathbed".

Ahh, yes, Deathbed is one of my favorites. I was tempted to post it but thought it would be best to do something with no explicit religious content. Just in case :P

Musically and lyrically, I think Deathbed is one of their best songs. But, ya, I guess it has to be rated R for Religious  . Oh well, it's still a very good song.

Here's my buddy at SXSW. Great songwriter/lyricist. Simple midwestern folkyness. And you'll hear my "Dirty Stallis" delay at the intro. (D'Lay from guitarPCB.com, fully modded out.)

Nice. Thanks for sharing. I really like the sound of the music. The vocals sort of get lost in the mix. Do they have any studio recordings?
