Hi guys

So it's been ages since I've posted a build (or built anything even) but I had some time during the week and put this one together on Keen's board from GGG. Wanted a Univibe clone for ages and this does not disappoint. All the classic sounds! Sounds wonderful being driven by my RM Axis Fuzz.

Functional rather than pretty enclosure, a first for me as this is the first I have drilled myself, I don't have a lot of time since my little girl was born and spraying and decalling I can live without. I have true bypass and cancel stomp switch to have the best of both worlds.

Big knob for speed on the side, for toe control.

PCB (the back is usually isolated from the enclosure)

Image

Internal wiring. Carling switches and alpha 16mm pots

Image

Jacks and whatnot

Image

PCB featuring massive trimmer!

I took a few more pics of the outside of the enclosure and lightshield etc but mostly more of the same.

Thanks for looking!

EDIT: Just wanted to finish this off by posting the light shield I fabbed up. After trying a few things out I settled on this, and I'm really pleased with how it looks and how it sounds. It's a plumbing end cap, with buss wire legs soldered inside and then soldered through hole. Different colour wire as this was a second unit I made.

Really excellent job!
I love that heavy looking switch, and the knobs keeping a little true to the Univibe feel. Great work!

Damn Joe, you jumped in with all 3 legs on your way back. Killer build. Sexy PCB man. I think what you did on the enclosure looks great actually. Real DIY feel!

What are you using for the AC voltage power supply?

Thanks for the nice comments guys, I appreciate it.

Stephen, I built it intending to pick up a dedicated AC PSU. As it turns out I was digging through some boxes and found an old HP laptop PSU with an 18.1v DC centre positive output and the right diameter barrel, so I'm using that instead at least for the time being. The power brick is enormous, but as I'm not out gigging these days it'll do for now. I'll probably pick up the AC PSU if it needs to go on a pedal board.

What did you use as a lightshield?

the light shield is a bit too DIY... heavy card lined with tin foil and taped together. It's a debug lightshield. Now I know the circuit works I'll cut up a tin and solder it in properly.

Also going to have a go at adjusting the trimmers to suit.

Sorry for not converting to metric, but, at our Loew's (DIY Dept Store) I purchased copper pipe caps (3/4 inch) and lined it with adhesive aluminum tape, and soldered a harness.

You're welcome Kunfuz!

Thanks too Geek, your light shield looks great, a good option

Yeah the PCB outline is about 1" so I've planned to make a metal box as I've read others have had success with plated tin cans as it's about the right thickness, already shiny on the inside and can be soldered into a box shape. I have a suitable tin, just depends how butchered it is after attacking it with tin snips, if I doesn't go well I'll go to the DIY store for a pipe cap as you have done.

Another ? What pot taper did you use for the Speed control? The parts list and diagram on page 6 specify a ganged C100K but the documentation specifies a ganged log taper pot.

Alpha Potentiometer 16mm Stereo 100k rev log for the speed control.

http://www.musikding.de/Passive-parts/P ... :2974.html

Works as I would expect it too. Increased speed as you turn CW.

Another thing I noticed was the BOM calls for a 50k log pot for depth, but the schematic and layout show a 50K lin pot. I used a linear and the taper works nicely.

I haven't made any clips of this. I might record some soon though.
There are a few neovibe clips on youtube, plus all the other clones on a similar/same curcuit..

Hi guys

I've finished the lightshield and updated the first post, so this is a bump

This is a second unit I made hence the different coloured wires. The shield is a plumbing fitting with buss wire legs soldered inside and then through hole. Very pleased with how this looks and sounds.
