Madbean Slow Loris (Rat) with Ruez & clipping mods and a Clean Blend (the vero add-on.)
I really like to use a rat with my archtop when I do jazz gigs, but like to be able to blend some clean back in help preserve some clarity and stop the thing from howling too much.
I used the Buff and Blend vero I posted in the vault a while back.
Clipping options are leds, none and a pair of BS170 configured as clippers. (my favorite)

That seems like a cool alternate use of a Rat, and of course it looks great, too! Nice mods/additions.. :D

I would love to know where you got that multiconductor cable from, though I fear the answer is Australia..

Actually, the polar opposite. From a certain red-bearded Viking type often found here.

Always a good moment to look at your builds! 8)

Could you tell me more about those BS170 as clipping «diodes»?

Cool! I love the Rat circuit.
Have you got a link to the clean blend circuit on the vero there? Could be a handy little thing to have for a lotta stuff.

Here you go Birthday boy.
It's a pretty simple circuit, and isn't the best for some applications (there's an opamp one that's a bit better and the paramix which is much better)- but it's small and does the trick in this instance.

A Rat for jazz? Surely not?? Like the etch, as a kid I had one of those glow in the dark models of the Creature from the Black Lagoon 8)

Well, Modern Jazz...not that banjos and straw-boaters stuff.
What do Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Scofield, Ben Monder and Bill Frisell all have in common? -a Rat!
I like it because it adds sustain to my D'Aquisto archtop which helps with legato playing. The clean blend means the front of the note remains clear, but the distortion fills out the body. It can actually be quite subtle. I pinched the idea from Rosenwinkel, who has a great legato technique, and uses Lehle loopers to mix various effects into his fundamentally 'classic' jazz guitar tone.

uh.... Ben? I hate to be the one to break this to you, but here in the US (you know, where jazz is from  ), the only thing "jazz" about that video is the drummer's left hand.

however, if you told me it was downtempo progressive rock fusion, I would tell you it was awesome.

Pardon me, I'm off to look up more videos from this hot downtempo progressive rock fusion act.

Geez, I thought I was such a sophisticate because I'd heard of Blues, Rock, Jazz, Classical and knew it was African musicians on Paul Simon's 'Graceland' album... everyone around me only seems to know of Country and "What is that shit?!! Can't you play any songs we know?"
Glad you guys dig it though, Kurt and Jazz can be a beast....and it seems to me any person with ears and a heart couldn't fail to appreciate sounds like those. :D

Alot of jazz players choose the rat because it has sizzle but it is still warm, especially vintage ones :D
