Here's my first test-build of the latest version of the "Codpiece" board that Captain Peyote and I have been developing.

Image

The clippers are on an on/off/on switch.
You can have none, two yellow Led eyes that lightup when selected, or a pair of BS170s rigged to clip.

Ok! What exactly is this? a boost, a fuzz? Really love it..... 8)

And is this made with Funky etched pcb we saw the other day?

It covers Od and fuzz territory, and yes, is made on a unique looking pcb. 8)
I'll post a new demo shortly, but here's an early version, sans clippers, here.
The two other clipping options yeild some additional, and heavier, sounds.

I like the finish. I did a similar etch a LONG time ago. A cool big square with a graphic in the middle. Love it!

love the external etch!
and a quote from me, the Cap'n, right on the box!

also like to add that this circuit sounds great with a wide variety of different clippers, and it's a quick and easy build with commonly-available parts. Chances are if you do much building, you've already got everything you need to throw one together. A n00b-friendly build doc is on the way, and we'll be offering etched boards for anybody who wants to give it a go!

I got it from a guitar repair guy years ago. Sadly, I've never seen one the same since...

As promised here's a demo

Wow! that sounds incredibly good, sustain for years!

Count me in for at least 5 boards....that is a hit!

Smallbear used to sell that exact knob. But I see they don't have it now. I've still got the three I bought from SB. Never could quite figure out what to put them on.

Here's my build on the same board. I used green rectangular LED's and 1N4001's for clipping.
It's in a vanilla-colored enclosure, so I guess that makes it... um... a creamy codpiece. gross!

I also used one of the sexy light-up knob/PCB combos from the recent group buy. My first build with one. Came together easy!

Those with sharp eyes will notice that the orientation of the transistors is different from Ben's build. That's because the pedal works with the trannies flipped. With them positioned the way I've got them, it's a powerful OD with no clipping selected, a fuzz machine with the LED clipping, and a super-compressed, bitcrush-type deal with the silicon clipping. I even got some funky octave-down tracking glitch stuff at the end of sustained notes with the fat switch engaged. This might be partially because I picked the highest hfe 2n2222 and 2n3906 I had on hand. The downside of this arrangement is that the sustain is shortened slightly from the original arrangement. I haven't decided which version I like better... might even add a tranny switcher if I can figure out where it'll fit. :)

Should have guessed your Codpiece would feature a glow-in-the-dark knob, Capt.

 Flipping Q2 does indeed produce insane fuzz with outrageous glitchy octave down action.
Rotating Q1 tames this effect, but I think this is simply the result of Q1 not amplifying...

This is all very interesting...and an additional switch to reverse Q2 would be a cool mod 8)

Here's a 1590A Codpiece with the Peyote Mod, an extra DTDP switch to swap between two 2N3906s, one oriented each way.
The glitchy octave down fuzz it produces is insane and adds a whole new element of fun.

Image

You can get away with a DPDT because each of the trannys has a leg tied directly to earth, leaving only a pair each that need switching.

Here's lookin' at you kid!
