The Maharaja is one of my favorite beers of all time. Fantastic super-IPA, smooth, full of body, hoppy hoppy hoppy. It's spensive though (that 22oz was $12) and not available all the time. It's saved for special occasions.

I am in a corny-ass piano singalong bar in New Haven for a friends birthday. I can feel my soul dying. Oh my god, kill me.

I'm still alive, made it out of there after only three drinks, without slitting my wrists.

I really don't understand the appeal of such a place, but girls love it for birthday parties and bridal parties. And they drag their husbands/boyfriends along. Actually, some of those guys appear to like it as well. You write your request on a slip of paper and bring it up the piano players, and they play it. They'll even do cheesy covers of metal songs on the piano, as long as it's not too obscure. It's got to be the corniest music venue I've ever seen. Hopefully, I'll never have to go again.

I've only ever been to one dueling piano place, at the Bar at Times Square in the NYNY hotel in Vegas. I went twice and had fun both times. Was really impressed that these guys can just play requests off the cuff like that, and play off each other, and entertain the crowd.

OK it is annoying that the piano players make BANK on NOT playing songs. I mean, there's always going to be some 50something woman/women with too much money who INSIST on hearing Barry Manilow or Journey or something and they're going to pay to hear it, and the crowd is going to play right into the hands of the piano players and insist they don't want to hear it (because really, who does...) and then the crowd is going to pay for the piano guys to NOT play Manilow or Journey, then the ladies will pay more, etc. They play a few parts of an annoying song, whip the crowd into a cash dropping frenzy, everyone loses (except the two piano players).

Actually now that I just wrote that second part, maybe it wasn't all that much fun!

See? Deep down, you hated it. Every time you go to a dueling piano bar, your soul dies a little, whether you realize it or not. :D

The piano players were actually OK. I do have to give them credit for being able to pull off such a variety of songs. I noticed one of them was pulling up music on his iPad, though, so I don't know how "talented" they really are. It's all just too tacky for me.

There were no ipads when I went, as in they hadn't been released yet, and the guys didn't have laptops or anything. So at least there was that....

Dude it's Monday - what are you on vacation? Man I couldn't drink like that on a work night. I'm gettin too old.

Here's the latest Magic Hat offering - pistil, brewed with dandelions. I have no idea if that's a good idea or not but the result is tasty. Like a wheat IPA if that makes any sense. The suspended sediment is a little scary bu I've drank scarier :)

Just tried a different liquor store here in town, I had no idea they had such a great beer selection! Not as big a selection as my usual store, but tasty stuff.. and they have quite a few things that the other store doesn't. Variety is the spice of life. :-)

OK, but it's nothing you'd like:

Also bought two bottles of this for the cellar (not my pic):

I've also had the 16 (you may remember), but I haven't found the 18 yet.

^ Nice~! Yes, you did bring me up to speed on the ola dubh - I just opened it a few months ago, it was a 2009! These bottles I bought last night are from 2011, so I'm gonna try to keep them around as long as I can.

kfuz that is a kick ass radio.

And Jefe thanks for rocking the Pilsners man and thanks for letting me know there's another I need to look for! Ever since the Balashi on my honeymoon 3 years ago, then the selection of Eastern European pilsners on a work trip to Budapest not long thereafter, I've been on a good quest for as many as I can find.

I've noticed more importing, here in New England at least, of Estrella Damm from Barcelona. That's quite tasty as well.
