Yeah, it's a real disaster of DIY. I keep trying to clean it up, but it's a losing battle.

Post your shots if you like, but only messy stuff. No OCD work benches welcome here!

Here's what it looks like right now (at least the part you can see in this photo):

With progress comes mess. An inevitable law of the universe.

My bench looked like that until about 3 days ago. I cleaned up a bunch of the workshop/garage area and am trying to turn over a new leaf. We'll see how long this lasts. Usually I do the big cleanup every 3-4 months or so.

Don't think of it as a "shit-sty"--think of it as proof of the law of entropy.

Benjamin Franklin said in his autobiography that he had more trouble with order than anything else. I figure if HE can get away with it, we can

Someday I'm gonna have to get me a messy bench. For the moment I don't have the option because it's a shared workspace and I only get a bout 6x6 feet

Best tool ever. With that and my signal generator troubleshooting and circuit understanding has been made way easier. I'm working on getting my work to buy one that does FFT. That'll be fun to have around.

Funny, this thread did not change my wife's opinion of me at all.

I fail to see the issue.

The only time my bench looks remarkably better than what I see here is when I ain't be gettin' nuthin' done!

Well, it's out o focus, but here's my (recently tidyed) room.
Outside those slat windows are a few chooks, banana and citrus trees, a pond full of green tree-frogs, car tyres hanging from ropes for my kids to swing on and a small patch of rain forrest...
In the foreground right is one of my fireman's boots.
It's just turned (mildly) cold so I've got the oil heater out, but it's Northern NSW, so the winters are blue skied and mild.
