I have found a way to easily modify the newer 9V DC adapter jacks the are included with the more recent vintage BYOC kits. The old 9V DC adapter jacks included in the kits had a flange that fitted on the outside of the enclosure and was fixed in place by an internal plastic nut that threaded onto the inside portion of the jack (terminal end) and tightened against the interior of the enclosure.

The 9V AC adapter jacks the are included in the newer BYOC kits now have an external nut that makes it easier to install IMO. However, the threaded end of the jack protrudes about 1/8 to 1/4 inch outside the enclosure - not a good cosmetic appearance and also a risk for damage.

Image

What I have done is go to the hardware store and purchase some #9 Neoprene O-Rings to "thicken" the flange.

Image

Fitting two #9 O-Rings over the threaded end of the jack allows it to protrude from the exterior of the enclosure enough to thread on the external nut.

Image

The threaded end of the jack protrudes just enough that it can be tightened and flush with the nut providing a better cosmetic result that is less prone to being damaged accidentally.

Yep, exactly what we been doing. Good on you to come up with the situation outside of asking, even if the solution already existed.

I didn't know the solution already existed. I had searched the board for a solution before I came up with my own (3 pedal builds ago), but never found it. So I thought I would post my solution for the newbies on the board. I figured the experienced builders probably solved the problem in their own way, but hadn't shared the information.

Yeah, comes up every now and again, but like I said....Good on you for discovering it on your own.....That's what DIY is all about.

Extra nuts: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=731 <-- these work awesome. Same nuts that come with the jacks.

There are also plastic ones, which I haven't tried, but they look like they'd work well: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=1063

Good solution. i have been using the nylon washers that come with the 3pdt stomp switches. They are a hair too small to fit but if you clip them with your wire cutters and spread them a bit they work fine. I then go but the 10-cent metal stomp washers from Smallbear. Looks better all around.
