While I can't answer your question I would suggest you peruse the Jensen website:

http://www.jensentone.com

Plenty of sound samples of their 8" models with good descriptions to enhance your understanding of speaker characteristics and usage.

Check out Weber's extensive line of 8" speakers, too.

Thanks garyvee and duhvoodooman. I've perused the Jensen and Weber sites. Hoping for practical feedback from users though...

I put an Eminence Cannabis Rex into my NOS Blues Jr after doing most of the BillM mods...and it's fantastic. Where the original Jensen "Special Design" speaker has a certain harshness in the higher frequencies (especially after the mods), the CR smooths all that out. Bluesy. Smoky. But still sizzles when it needs to.

But a Blues Jr ain't a PTP Champ......

I put the Weber Signature Alnico 8" in mine and it sounds great.

The reason I didn't mention any 8" speaker recommendations is because I recommend....a bigger speaker. I just don't like the weak bottom you get with a speaker that small. I built the Champlifier and then purchased a combo cab with a 10" baffle. Got a Weber Sig 10AS alnico in it and am very pleased with the tone. The 2" increase in diameter results in a 56% increase in total cone area and a lot bigger sound, particularly the low end. You can do other things to increase the bass response, but a lot of them will further accentuate the amp's tendency to sound farty when cranked.

I'm really starting to enjoy my Weber Blue Pup Alnico 10" now that it's breaking in nicely.. I 'think' they also make an 8" alnico pup? not 100% sure though.

I'm with duhvoodooman.. 8" isn't enough for me either.

aaand... I'm not liking the way that came out. :|

OK, so I agree that 10 inches is better (aaaand I'm with powerpopguy on how that comes out) - sort of. I have to say that I really like how the amp sounds with the Weber Sig. I do not tend to crank it much past 12 o'clock, though, and depend on pedals for crunch (mostly); this is my main recording amp now. I think it depends on how you're going to use the amp and I may very well change my mind if I ever gig with it. In that case, I will probably take a 10" cab along and plug into that. Maybe. Like I say, I like the way the amp sounds now.
