I saw someone's build of this and had to try one for myself, got it off amazon for 11$:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050Z ... 01_details
Needs a center positive adapter which is why I have the battery snap attached underneath

Yes! I built one of these about a month ago. Works like a charm.

Wow!

Getting one right away! have you tested it with caps that you knew the value, is the accuracy pretty good?

A few tested, 47n box cap was 47.3n, that tropical fish cap of 100nf was 90.6nf(which is within the 10% tolerance of the cap I think) and a 100uf cap was a little over 100uf.

I built this a while back, and it's awesome! Highly recommended, unless you want to stay in the dark about how wide the tolerances are on your caps...

I housed mine, very quickly and sloppily, in one of those cheapy folded aluminum enclosures. I had to move the test sockets up to the top of the enclosure, though.

Almost - I've got it mounted on stand-offs on the lid of a 1590B, but I haven't grown the balls to drill the enclosure yet. That's a mighty hole needed for the display.

Dremel. It was a cheap rat shack enclosure. Works very well, and I left that flap of metal to be a hood to make the LED readout easier to see. Most of us work with overhead lights. Something to consider.

Ordered mine yesterday, any tips for the build? I see that it needs a center positive PS, but anything else I need to know?

If you look at my tester, you will see that I soldered some extra sockets over the existing sockets, as I was told to anticipate wear of the stock ones.

THAT is not a problem, but I will probably be modding mine in the future to include flying leads whit alligator clips. Easier to check caps with short leads, or in some cases, really fat leads.

Built mine up last night and it works great. Still need to box it up somehow though.

I did attach wires with alligator clips to J5 and 6 ??? ( can't remember but it is the set right above the testing socket )

I also did not have a positive center power supply  So I attached a 9v to the underside of the power jack and it worked fine. Not sure if that will cause any issues if I make it permanent ??

Nice project and worth the $11 for sure
