So I am looking into getting the confidence booster for my first real pedal build, but i really want to make it into a stompbox... What supplies to I need, and how do I do it?

I would love to have some insight into this as well, I would love to pop my booster into one of the enclosures they sell here, but I'm not exactly sure which one. (bump)

DVM has a link in his well organized bank of links, but you guys should just do a quick search. this subject has been touch upon a few times in recent memory.

heres one, be sure to read what stephen is saying about the battery disconnect. if you search for 3pdt wiring you're bound to get some good ideas as well.

I looked your diagram over and I suppose the only thing I had a question about was this area I circled in orange near the "in".
Are those wires all merged together there? Sorry if this comes off as a n00b-type question.

Also, can you recommend an enclosure?

Thanks.

a dot like that just means there is a connection there. as for enclosure, you can use just about anything it will fit into. or one of these:

Wait scratch that! I see it now!

So one last favor for anyone...

Being a TOTAL beginner at this, would it be possible for someone to maybe put together a little parts checklist of what i need to make a full stompbox with LED, volume/level knob, 9V adaptor, and footswitch?

Thanks!

Beginner question...
Would it be possible to take GrindCustom's diagram and swap the 9volt for a DC adapter with out editing anything?
I believe the answer to this would be either "yes" or "almost but not quite..."

Yes you can swap it! just connect + to POS on PCB lug!

125B enclosure drilled for one knob and a bezel: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/storeenclosures.html
If you want to drill it yourself, you can go for a smaller 1290NS enclosure.

5mm LED & bezel: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/storeleds.html

3PDT Push Button switch: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/storeswitches.html

1/4" open frame mono jack, 1/4" open frame stereo jack, 2 3/8" internal lock washers if you want, DC power jack, internal or external nut: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/storeswitches.html

Solder lug 16mm Audio "A" Taper 100k pot: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/storepots.html

Any knob from this page: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/storeknobs.html

One more clarification request from a complete NOOB (and proud of it);
Just next to the LED I see a box w/ 4.7k. I'm assuming this is a resistor but don't see it on the parts list and want to be sure before I mess things up even more.
The basic build looks very nice IMHO, except for the part where it doesn't really work (fuzzy, only strong notes get through, like it has a gate it has to overcome) but at 5.1 v without load, I suspect the battery. Actually this ALMOST sounds like an electric sitar box. Hmmmmm......

On the parts list, you don't have that resistor, because you don't have a led included with the confidence boost.

You have to put at least, 1K resistor on the negative leg(short) of the led, or you'll blow it! :)

Thanks for the tip, and the board works great now; it was the battery. This is no small relief as I have two kits in the box, which I can now get started on.

Keep it up! You're doing good!!

I think alot of us have started with the confidence boost, personnaly i think it's a real good thing that it does'nt come with a stomp switch, enclosure and outboard potentiometer.

It obligates you, at your first built, to dig for some information and understand a bit of schematic, wich will help alot if you want to get alot of pedal done.

I'm not saying that getting a «complete kit» is'nt good for a first, but i think that it's always better to not have a first attempt at something, served hot and ready to go in a plate.....

Meanwhile back on the ranch....

I did as you said, resistor on the neg leg. But the drawing shows the resistor on the positive side. I ended up running the positive wire to the resistor and that didn't work. Swapping it around didn't seem to work either, possible because I already fried it?

Never mind; I worked it out. Positive line to the positive leg and all is well, aside from taking the >1000 ohms a bit liberally. At 56k I can see the led come on, as long as I have the room lights out. Trying 1000 ohms now, which fit the law a bit closer, which I figured to be about 350 ohms.

(later...) Sho'nuff, at 1000 ohms it lights up nicely. Again, I'm running the positive from the DC port (shaft) to the positive arm, and neg to post 1 as advertised, excepting I'm putting the resistor after the led. Oh, and I see on my blurry print now that it's 4.7k, not 47. That does make a difference. All is well, and my first build is a success.

Although I will go back and swap the pot... in an apparent reading impairment I got a B100 not an A100 so it goes from off to LOUD!!! in a short throw, not that it's necessarily a bad thing.
