If I got a package at my door with COD after I paid a hefty shipping charge, I would decline to take it, call the vendor and demand an explanation. If none is given or the do anything other than refund your purchase, call Visa/Mastercard etc. and have them cancel your payment. That kinda crap should not be tolerated by a vendor.

Damn. That's why I only ship USPS. Your country's customs may charge you a fee, but USPS doesn't jack anybody extra beyond what is paid at the time of sending.

For the most part, I've gotten some "postage due" items at the po box. Nothing huge but they still do it

Yeah, I only order from places that will ship USPS (or a higher grade of UPS---it's only UPS ground that hits you with the brokerage/customs). I've had to pay extra too many times. I understand that not all stores feel responsible to take border crossing charges into account, but simply changing the shipping method can make it much easier for us Canucks.

Not impressed:
Order in parts was $90.
Shipping paid to Mammoth was $21.15 UPS (because it was shipping to Canada, USPS was not an option - I checked many times to make sure).
Then at the door, I was charged $43.90 'brokerage and taxes' to UPS.
I paid $65.05 in just shipping and handling! That's 2/3rds the price of what I can actually tangibly hold in my hands!
In all of my orders before with Smallbear, EC, Futurlec, Tayda, and PPP, I've never been charged COD.

I've emailed Mammoth but I won't be a return shopper.

That's normal, it's not their fault, it's UPS. I only use USPS aswell, they deal with Canada Post directly so the brokerage fee doesn't apply. I paid $150 for a $74 guitar case last year because of UPS, and it wasn't very good quality and there's no way to return it or get my money back.

If you're getting "postage due", that means the sender didn't put enough postage on it. Either it was weighed wrong or they just guessed and it was under.

So, I've been having great success with mammoth...I've ordered about 300 dollars worth of parts over the last month and a half. I love the fast shipping (I'm getting stuff about 36 hours after I make the order), and the generally good quality.

I do have to report one really negative thing....enclosure screws. My last order I got about 12 enclosures, and only got 11 sets of screws. Today I opened a second order I made earlier this week with 6 enclosures and only got 5 sets of screws. It's not the end of the world...it is freakishly annoying.

Also.. they ship IC's in white styrofoam cooler pieces.

luckily so far none are fritzed out.

other than that they have done me well on more than one occasion.

FYI - Mammoth is now offering First Class shipping option for domestic orders under 13oz. (.8 lbs). I just checked out an order of 600 resistors, 10 ICs, 10 Transistors totalling $19.01 ........ $3.73 shipping!. Total $22.74. That is a nice change from most other vendors. Plus, they will be adding First Class International soon.

Same order at SB = $26.98.

Same Order at EC = $41.00.

Also, you should be seeing some Box Caps in their store very soon.

... and now they have Barry Kits! With pretty decent pricing, and enclosure/knob options to boot.

that's good news.. I've been really happy with my several Mammoth orders (one on the way now!). Except for a few of the plastic knobs with no metal sleeve for the set screw. Everything else has been just dandy.

If you do any amount of breadboarding you really should pickup Mammoth's breadboard wire bundle with the end pins.. it made breadboarding an absolute pleasure compared to bending around little bits of jumper wire..

and oh yeah.. Barry Kits! :D That's really cool too!

I appreciate the support but I would like to say here and now that this Kit thing is not meant as a competition with BYOC.
I would like to believe there is room for me considering BYOC is the Kit King!
I owe a lot to everyone here at BYOC and especially Keith for being so gracious to me and everyone really for allowing us to explore ourselves and what we can do within the realms of this forum.
I wanted that to be understood and I will not use this site as a means of advertisement for kits.

That being said I am just a guy trying to make a living and support his family the best way he knows how at this time and I owe gratitude to everyone here!

Thank You!

Thanks for all your input, guys! To address the anti-static foam, we've got a bunch of that in and will be using that to pack all of our ICs from now on. Don't hesitate to contact us at sales@mammothelectronics if you have suggestions or comments you would like to have addressed immediately. I've said it before - you guys are the reason we made the company, and doing what we can to accommodate you is always our aim.

Thanks again!

The wire at Mammoth plain old sucks! I just chucked a Zendrive clone at a closet door out of frustration. Tinned and retinned the wires and it still cuts out.

Get better wire and battery snaps!!! And replace anything else that's cheap junk!

bummer about the wire...
I too have noticed that, while most of the stuff mammoth carries is totally decent, they have a few cheap/crappy options. One would be the little knobs with no brass insert - so easy to strip the set screw! Another is those awful battery snaps. I have no problem with them carrying cheaper options... sometimes, I'm on a tight budget! But it would be really nice to have the choice between an "economy" battery snap and a "heavy duty" one for .15 cents more. At least that way, I'd know what I was getting before the box arrived.

But it's only fair to say that every time I visit their site, Mammoth has upgraded or improved something. I think they're really coming along. Good work, blakemoth! And good for you for checking in here - it shows you care, which scores big points with a guy like me.

Thanks for the suggestions, brotherdoc. We're always bringing more stuff into inventory, so just keep checking in. Plans for more options on wire and another battery snap are in the works. And great call, CaptainPeyote. We agree, and are working hard to change our molds to fit those brass inserts which will transition all our knobs over to brass screws with better inserts.

Thanks again!

One feature I would like to see is the ability to save a list of parts. I have made several orders from Blake and Mammoth and have been satisfied with the products and service ( don't use the wire or battery clips so it sounds like I have been lucky there ) but everytime I go to the site to order I start from scratch.

Sure would be nice to pull up my list(s), or perhaps a previous order, and add the list to my cart without having to go enter each part every time.

+2. Even a wish list or something would be great.

just gotta say that Blake and crew's responsiveness to our comments and suggestions, combined with my own order and customer service experiences is making Mammoth my new favorite parts shop :D

Thanks Blake!

Plus they are about as close to a "one stop shop" that you can get.
