I shall try approaching my polarity/hum problem from another angle. I want to run my 5 knob compressor at 18v. I'm going to make a Y cord and plug into 2 outputs on my Voodoo Lab PP+2. Does the wire on the cord need to be shielded, or will any wire do?

Can you buy aftermarket adapters for the PP?

Sure, Voodoo Labs has an after market adapter, but you know how it is, once you start soldering, you don't want to stop. I got two jacks at Radio Shack and spliced into an old Boss adapter (shielded) and made a Y cord and OMG, the compressor sounds fantastic. I never would have believed there could be such a difference. Sounds good at 9v but at 18v, it just opens up. And no hum. Thanks for the quick responses K of C. The 12v hum shall remain a mystery for now.

The after market adaptor that Voodoo makes is not just a split cable.

Their part# PPAV (not yet listed on their website) is a split Y adapter with its ground lifted on one side to prevent ground loop hum. This cable should only be used to power two effects that are adjacent in the sound chain.

Hope this is helpful.
