Hmm, this got me thinking - an old radar detector, gutted and used to house an effect. It will be completely useless as a radar detector, but having a whole stream of red/yellow/green LEDs would be way cooler as a status indicator than just one LED...

you could set the LEDs up like on an audio console, to show the strength of the incoming signal.... sweet!

PS - I think tooly's talking about a radar JAMMER, not detector. the detectors don't do squat for the most commonly used radar these days, where they aim a "laser" at a reflective surface on your car and get an instant reading. A good jammer will supposedly scatter the signal, preventing an accurate reading on their radar guns. Or, it's smoke & mirrors - who knows.

any thoughts on how to do this, with an analog meter? doesn't even have to be accurate, just want to make the indicator jump around somewhat in accordance with the signal.

Got an AWESOME old analog meter bricked up in bakelite with a removable scale (so I can scan, edit and make custom)
But cant figure out how to rig it.

hahaha. That's amazing. Emmet Otter's jug band christmas was one of my favorite movies growing up. I think the river bottom nightmare band could be one of the first doom metal bands... haha
