I bought a bunch of AC128 transistors on Ebay. After reading about fake 128's I'm worried about mine. The blue/green writing on them is what made me suspicious. I thought I'd post some pictures and then one of the resident experts might be able to tell if they are genuine old stock or reissue or fake etc.

Until you can find out if they're real or not, I'd just slap 'em into something and see how they sound. If they sound good, then all will be OK :)

That will be the true test I suppose... I'm just waiting for the parts to make my PNP fuzzface to slap 'em into. In the meantime I have to worry about something

I think its a modern tranny and not a vintage one. I could be wrong, though.

They're Tungsram AC128's... FWIW... I don't care for them but "Geek" loves them.

They're from Hungary, and they may be NOS or they may be new, <shrug> GE owns Tungsram now but I doubt they're making Ge Tarsistors anymore.

Here's the Wiki... Tungsram Wiki

Yeah....those are the tungsram AC128. IMHO, they are horrible and don't sound anything like the Phillips/Mullard made AC128's. Sound is a subjective thing, but the two versions aren't even remotely spec'd similarly. I hope they work out for you, fassbender. The only good use I could find for them was as a replacement for the PNP transistor in the Greenringer circuit. They are so low gain that they get rid of a lot of the distrortion.

Thanks for the info, even if its not exactly what I wanted to hear. I'll give them a try and see what they sound like I guess... I wish I didnt get so many.

Oh well, does anyone want to buy some Tungsram AC128's?

I buy lots of different vintage components. So do a lot of others here too. It can be a dicey proposition, and for what it's worth I have 20 Tungsram AC128 gathering dust too.

Never hesitate to ask around here before you buy. Post it in the Sourcing Parts Forum for the best results.

Ahh, yes, the "Rusky's" as we affectionately call them. GT308B's too... I can't wait to try them both in some RM's, & MKII's.

I don't like to speak for others but I thought I saw a post somewhere around here where the "Geek" said he liked Hillary for Prez and Tungsram AC128's. 8)

The BYOC Ultimate Fuzz is an NPN effect. The GT313V's are PNP. Several of us will be trying them in MKII's and Rangemaster clones. I'll report back after I figure out why my RM clone design doesn't work... We'll report back soon... I think Geek has then in a FU2 we'll have to see what he thinks...

I'll be interested in the results. I like the idea of using Russian parts, and they're cheap.

Im doing the "boutique" fuzz face from GGG and I was going to wire it PNP so I could use them - thats what I bought those Tungsram's for.
