Would an A50k made for a bad blend knob, instead of the B50k?

I used an A50k and I lose a lot of signal when blending the fuzz and it only comes back to normal with blend 100%.

Would a B pot fix it?

Yes, switching to a B50K should definitely help. With an audio taper pot like the one you're using now, the pot only generates about 15 - 20% of its maximum resistance through the first 50% of it's sweep. So the resistance increases much more quickly in the back half of the sweep, which sound like exactly what you're experiencing.
