Build Your Own Clone Message Board

I have an Opticomp kit on it's way and I play both bass and guitar. I was thinking of making it switchable but was curious about how it would effect my guitar tone if I just built it with the bass caps? Would it just be to dark for guitar?

Also does anyone have any Idea how to go about making it switchable for guitar/bass?

As far as I can see from a quick look those are all coupling capacitors which will determine bass roll-off.
A guitar doesn't put out anything below 80Hz in standard tuning while a bass is an octave lower.

The bigger caps will just improve the circuits low end response. I don't think having the larger caps in there will have much effect on the compressors performance with guitar other than making the compressor more responsive to thumps on the strings and bangs on the guitar body. I can see where you might want to roll off unneeded bass for the guitar in a gentle way so the compressor responds more strongly to actual played notes rather than the odd thwack.

I would imagine the original design values were chosen because the compressor was designed for guitar and it is common practice not to use caps of much larger values than they need to be for the range of frequencies the pedal is designed for.
