couldn't find a definitive statement about this in a previous post...

Should the attack/release get slower or faster as you turn the "Attack" knob clockwise?

Much Thanks,
Mat

The ATTACK knob
Quote:
...on the 5-knob is actually a release control. Ibanez called their old release mod as attack and most have copied their design. The attack controls how long the signal is compressed before letting go. As you turn it up, release time increases.

So that's the answer (thanks Coolhand), but your question was kind of a trick question without really meaning to be. :D

No problem. That ATTACK label always gets me, and before saying the wrong thing I go make sure!

Well, I did some testing of my new build last night, and it actually works the other way: release time decreases (i.e. faster release) as you turn the knob clockwise. Easy to test just by striking a muted string and waiting for the pickup noise to return as the compressor releases.

Cheers,
Mat

So, to get the popping type sound heard in country chicken pickin you would want the release to be fast right (full clockwise)?

Yes, I think that's the conventional wisdom.
