Hello all!

First post here on the board, though I have been lurking for some time.

I just finished my first build, a 2-knob classic compressor. The build went really smooth, and the pedal works great. I do have one question however. In the instructions it says to adjust the trim pot to get the best sound, but I can't notice any difference in the sound no matter where I set the trim pot. Since the instructions are not really detailed about the function of the trim pot, I thought I'd swing by here for more clarification as to what it is supposed to do.

Thanks!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the trimmer adjusts how much input signal the chip is recieving. There should be a noticeable difference in sound but maybe you're playing with low gain pickups?

Hmm... My guitar is a Carvin DC200 with Humbuckers, definitely not the weakest pickups I have, though I honestly don't know how hot they actually are. Perhaps there is something wrong with my build...

So just to clarify, you're saying that the trimpot adjusts the amount of input gain? Which would mean, Clockwise = more squish. Just like boosting the input gain on a studio dynamics processor.

It does adjust input gain. If you use an 18v power supply you will notice a bigger difference in the adjustments.

Ok then. I guess I have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the help!

No I don't think that is true. The trimpot adjust the gain voltage to get the best clean signal with the least amount of distortion before the signal is compressed.
