either a "real one" like the HiWatt, or a REALLY closely modeled one, like the Strymon. Those things are danged expensive, and of course due to practical reasons emulation may be the best way to go...I know the "Analog Delay" sounds pretty danged good, but there's nothing like real tape, if it can be done...

I know its been done before by more skilled hands than mine.
it would seem to me that the mechanics of the play mechanisms and such would a beast to tackle..
that said i'm sure if some cat can build a mellotron out of surplus sony walkmen... anything is possible.
