I got the starter kit set from BYOC a couple months ago but haven't used it in awhile. Now I'm remembering why I stopped. Every time I put the iron into the holder the whole holder falls out. It worked fine when I first got it but now it makes me not even want to use it. Any suggestions about what I can do to keep this thing in place?

Are you saying that the coil comes out of the base?

If so try drilling and shooting a screw into the base to hold the coil in place.

Hey DocOc - any way you can toss a pic of the holder up so we can see what is amiss?

Yeah the coil keeps falling out of the hole its supposed to sit in. I don't really know how to explain it or know if a picture will really illustrate the problem but I'll try and take one.

Good. This is with the iron not in the holster

Bad. When I try to put the iron in it gets off balance and tips over.

I was having the same problem, and I just squeezed the hook end a bit with my needle nose pliers, until it fit in the holder, nice and snug, and more solidly.

That's what I was trying to do but it wasn't working. I wasn't trying as hard as I could, though, I didn't want to break something.

love the fail pics, DocOc. Good illustration!

How about just shooting a little superglue or epoxy down into the hole, then clamping the coil in there for a while?

Maybe some JB Weld or Gorilla glue?

 The fail pic was where I was thinking how I'm going to show what I was talking about. The only way I could think of was before and after

I'll try some glue or something, I just didn't want to have to fill the whole cavity up with glue but I guess I'll have to. Honestly I haven't been using it because every time I do it falls out (oh and the fact that I usually wind up making the problem worse when I get a soldering iron in my hand). It's gotten me so infuriated to the point I thought I was going to smash it through my window on several occasions.

Now off to the tech support section to try and troubleshoot one of my many other related problems.

Thanks guys.

After looking at the pics, I think Stephen has the right idea.

Drill a hole from the back of the enclosure that lines up with the center of the radius of the bent wire when installed. Install the wire, drive in a screw, the holder becomes safe.........and removable for compact storage as necessary.

A question and another possible solution.

Is the wire holder pushed all the way down / in ? Hard to tell from the pics. If it is could you maybe bend the "U" shape a little wider ? That would increase the pressure when it inserted into the base and perhaps that would be enough to hold it in place.

i think you may just need to push the rack into the base more. i have the station from byoc, and heres mine..

Image

you see the open end of the loop isn't sticking out the base at all. don't go all he-man on it, just til the open part of loop is even with top of opening.

hope this helps

p.s. tommy turtle wants your ta-ta's

Ken there is no room for logical thought here. You know we glue, screw and must alter anything to a different form
