I've been lurking this forum for about a month now and *finally* decided to take the plunge with a Confidence Boost. Being my first pedal build (I have some limited experience with soldering to perf board and have built a very simple amplifier in a class setting) I can say I'm very firmly in the n00b camp, but after seeing how inviting this community is to us neophytes I don't feel too bad asking such beginner questions.

I want to build the Confidence Boost directly into a pedal enclosure straight away instead of inevitably trying to retrofit it later on, and I was really hoping to find some directions on how that might be done. Does anyone know if that exists already? I've read all of the suggested "first time" type threads (which are fantastic, btw) and searched through many other threads (including pages and pages of drool-worthy Show Off Your Completed Build posts) but haven't been able to locate anything in the way of step by step instructions. If nothing like that exists, can someone help point me in the right direction?

This seems like it might be exactly what I need to turn the circuit into a pedal proper, but I would be very thankful if some of you experts might be able to confirm that for me: http://www.mammothelectronics.com/Tonef ... d-bxkt.htm

Also, please let me know if there is a better place for this thread. Thanks!

_Henry

Thanks for chiming in. I've been trying that very search (and many similar permutations) but keep seeing this:

"Search term used: confidence enclosure ignored: enclosure"

Does anyone else have trouble with the search system on this forum? I've even experimented with the + modifier but am served the same results.

If you enter too much words....it fucks it up a bit....., but it usually works pretty good.

To box your confidence boost you'll need

125B or 1590B Enclosure (choice is yours)

3PDT FootSwitch

16mm A100k solder lug Potentiometer

LED and LED Bezel

2.1mm DC Jack

4.7k resistor

All that can be found at Mammoth Electronics or Pedal Parts Plus

And here's a little image to help you wire the DC jack, seems like it leads some people in trouble sometime..

Welcome Unc.

In the showoff section there have been some pics of some folks who have housed them too.

The search function works good generally, better than most others I'm on actually, but common words don't pull sometimes.

Thanks for all of the replies, truly helpful. I finally received all of the components and got everything populated last night, but I have one final (n000000b) question before I tackle the final assembly:

The LED I ordered from Mammoth has two legs of equal length - how do I determine which is the positive and which is the negative? Also, any tips on securing non board-mounted LEDs to the enclosure?

So close!

One side of the LED will be flat - that is the cathode (neg) side. As for securing the LED, Mammoth sells LED bezels which do a nice job. You'll have to drill the hole to 1/4" to accommodate the bezel though. Some folks also like to drill exactly to the diameter of the LED so that it fits snuggly into the enclosure. Either method works.

Putting the Confidence Boost into a pedal? I've done that. It's not too hard. See the schematic in the posts above. It's great and is what I used when I built mine into a pedal. The only thing I forgot was the LED (oops... ) Oh well.

Here's a shot of my BYOC pedals from back when I was custom building a pedalboard out of plywood, and was starting to layout the pedals and stuff.

Edit... See the schematic in the posts above? See the A100k pot? When you unsolder the trimpot, you have to be careful and remember what wire goes where. I accidently wired my A100k pot backwards at first, and went, "$*@&%!!!!!" and had to unsolder it and fix it.

You guys are the best - the pedal is done, and officially in the Show Off gallery:

Thanks again.

Hey GrindCustoms,
Does this look like the appropriate parts list?
What is the 4.7k resistor for, and where does it go? [update: ah, it's for the LED.]
Thanks,
-c12

The only thing I would add is to make sure you have enough wire - the stuff they include for the Confidence Boost probably won't be enough to wire it into an enclosure.

This is before and decals,I am still waiting on my waterslide paper to come in.I learned you never wire after 1 AM,and the LED only lights up if I use a 9 volt because i wired to the 9volt POS side on the DC in. Would I short anything out if I wired a jumper on the DC in from the POS to the 9volt POS and would my led light then when in used by ac power?

The LED should light regardless. Got any pics of the LED wiring?

Does the confidence boost fit into a 1590A enclosure, ac only, no battery? If so, does anyone sell predrilled 1590A's?

Nope it won't, and no company offers pre-drilled 1590A until you go custom with them.....

To the Mods, they're should be a sticky with all the info to put the Confidence Boost in an enclosure........these questions pops up all the time.....

Yeah... I think it's not a sticky because we already have 3 CB threads stickied in the Boosters and Buffers tech support lounge, though none are specific to building it into an enclosure. And I don't know that we have a single thread on building the CB into an enclosure, do we? If so I can sticky it.
